Hey Mr Wonderful!

I’m learning not to be too surprised by how people react to my music. The songs I’ve poured my heart into—the ones that left me in tears while writing because they unearthed something raw—are often the ones that drift quietly into the background. And then there are the others: the songs that arrive in a sudden flash, almost fully formed, and somehow end up being the ones people respond to most.
This is one of those songs.
It was late on a Saturday night. My husband and I had just finished watching Strictly (yes, the deeply glamorous life of the songwriter), and I decided to make myself a final drink before bed. A homemade Old Fashioned—sweet, smoky, and, if I may say so, quite respectable.
Glass empty, I sat down at my laptop with absolutely no plan beyond possibly checking email. And then, out of nowhere, a thought dropped into my mind as casually as you like: Write a tribute to Stevie Wonder. My biggest musical hero. And, as if delivered by the songwriting gods themselves, the title came with it: “Hey Mr Wonderful.”
But how on earth do you sum up a man you consider to be the most talented singer, songwriter, and musician alive?
The truth is: you don’t. I couldn’t begin to articulate everything Stevie has meant to me over the years. So instead, I followed whatever muse was nudging me along and ended up creating a little psychedelic, slightly eccentric ode to a mysterious apostle of music—a figure who walks through the world leaving colour, rhythm, and magic in his wake.
Here it is.
Have a listen and let me know what you think.
